EmiEats has a treats delivery from Tokyo!

Yesterday we received a very exciting package full of treats from my grandparents in Tokyo! I thought I'd share some of my favourite bits:

- Baumkuchen - which is German for tree cake.  I've never understood why, but it is a massive favourite in Japan and something we always eat when we're there.  The box contained a mixture of vanilla and chocolate slices.  The cake is known as tree cake as it looks like a cross section of a tree trunk as it is make up of thin layers which represent the rings in the trunk.

- Kibidango - these are like mochi, but instead of being made of rice they are made from millet.  They are soft, squishy and a little sweet too.  They are popularly linked to a folk-tale, Momotaro, Peach Boy, who uses the little dumplings to recruit help on an adventure.

- New Year's Tea - in the colourful tin I found special elderflower flavoured tea, as based on the  Zodiac calendar 2015 will be the year of the sheep (as of February - Chinese New Year).
