EmiEats at...The Lake, St Michael's Manor, St Albans

Heeeey!

So yesterday I was lucky enough to have lunch at The Lake at St. Michael's Manor in St Albans.  It's a beautifully traditional 4 star hotel tucked away in the city.  I had previously been for family events and afternoon tea but never had a sit down meal, so it was a real treat, and it was fair to say the food did not disappoint!

So to start I had the Venison Carpaccio, which was just so tender, it was served with a Balsamic glaze and Butternut squash puree.  My mum and grandma both had the Rhubarb and Chicory Salad with ginger bread, which I had a sly try of, and it was also pretty fab.

Onto the mains, which are pictured here...
My grandma had the Calves Liver with Pancetta and Mash.  My mum had the seared Sea Bream with confit onion and piquillo. The last photo of the three shows my outrageously tasty pan fried pheasant with kale and butternut squash.  As you an see the presentation of all the food was just beautiful, and the range and combination of flavours complimented each other perfectly!

Of course you can never skip a good dessert - I had a heavenly slice of chocolate tart.  It was just perfect as it used a dark chocolate so was not overly sweet or sickly, especially when served with a comforting dollop of creme fraiche and a little spread of a sort of berry coulee/jam.

For the excellent standard of food we had the meal was not overly expensive, at £22 for 3 courses - I would consider this a bargain in fact!

So if you're ever out in St Albans, visiting the Cathedral or learning about the Romans - take a trip down Fishpool Street to St Michael's Manor!
